Take precautions against dengue fever when travelling abroad
Dengue fever is now endemic in more than 100 countries in Africa, the Americas, the Eastern Mediterranean, Southeast Asia and the Western Pacific. This includes various popular tourist destinations for Hong Kong people including the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.
Travellers planning to travel in these areas should take precautions against the disease. Travellers returning from areas where dengue fever is prevalent should seek medical advice as soon as possible if they feel unwell and provide travel details to their doctors.

Take precautions against Monkeypox when travelling abroad
Monkeypox is a zoonotic disease caused by Monkeypox virus. Often found in tropical forest regions of Central and West Africa. It is mainly transmitted by contact with infected animals, human-to-human transmission is limited. Incubation period is mainly from 6 to 13 days, symptoms are similar with Smallpox infection, but less severe.
Since 6 May this year, multiple outbreaks were reported in Europe and North America countries, and many patient are self-identified as bisexual or men who have sex with men. Travellers planning to travel in these areas should avoid contact with infected person. Travellers returning from these areas shall notify the doctor to seek medical treatment and inform the travel situation if feeling unwell.

Philippines: Leptospirosis

As of 9 August, the
Philippines Department of Health reported 1,178 cases of
Leptospirosis infection and 156 deaths.
Laos: Dengue Fever [Update]
17 August 2022
As of 15 August,
Laos health officials reported 17,892 cases of
Dengue Fever and 17 deaths, more than half of the cases occurred in the capital city of Vientiane (9,114).
Nigeria: Measles [Update]
17 August 2022
During the first half year,
Nigeria reported 18,628 cases of
Measles infection.
Singapore: Dengue Fever [Update]

As of 15 Aug,
Singapore's National Environment Agency reported 24,352 cases of
Dengue Fever infection.
Panama: Dengue Fever [Update]
16 August 2022
The
Panama Department of Epidemiology of the Ministry of Health reported that from 2 January to 30 July, 2,859 cases of
Dengue Fever and 1 death have been registered. The five regions with the most cases at the national level are led by the Metropolitan Health Region with 659 cases; North Panama with 573 cases; Bocas del Toro with 457 cases; Panamá Oeste with 415 cases and San Miguelito with 252 cases.
Panama: Hantavirus [Update]

So far this year, the
Panama Department of Epidemiology of the Ministry of Health reported that 23 confirmed
Hantavirus infection including 1 death were being recorded throughout the country.
Brazil: Dengue Fever [Update]

Brazil has reported 1,910,657 cases of
Dengue Fever infection and 774 deaths through the end of July 2022. Among these, 962,000 cases were confirmed.

The
Bolivia Ministry of Health and Sports announced on 11 August that a total of 11 cases of
Monkeypox were reported in the city of Santa Cruz de la Sierra, all cases were male gender.
Vietnam: Dengue Fever [Update]
16 August 2022
In Ho Chi Minh City,
Vietnam, the Center for Disease Control has reported 39,449 cases of
Dengue Fever since the beginning of the year, an increase of 378.8% over the same period in 2021. In addition, 679 cases of severe dengue infection and 17 deaths have also been reported.
USA: Poliomyelitis

A case of oral vaccine-derived
Poliovirus infection with acute flaccid paralysis was confirmed in an unvaccinated adult in Rockland County, New York last month. This is the first case in
USA since 2013.
New York City health officials reported that although no cases of Polio have been reported in New York City, testing of sewersheds indicate presence of polioviruses in the city.

France: Dengue Fever

Two locally-transmitted
Dengue Fever cases were recorded in
France this year, the latest case was reported in Perpignan on 29 July.
