In Australia, an outbreak of Dengue Fever affecting 52 people was reported in north Queensland.

Malaysia: Chikungunya Fever

In the week of 21 to 27 December 2008, there were 184 new cases of Chikungunya Fever, making a total of 4 167 cases in the whole 2008.

In the week of 21 to 27 December 2008, there were 1 269 new cases of Dengue Fever, 2 of them died of the disease.

India: Avian Influenza, poultry

In India, five more outbreaks of Avian Influenza which killed 299 birds were reported in Assam.

Sri Lanka: Undiagnosed disease

In Sabaragamuwa Province of Sri Lanka, about 700 people were suffering from an undiagnosed disease with symptoms similar to Dengue Fever or Chikungunya Fever.

Russia: Haemorrhagic Fever with Renal Syndrome

In Russia, an outbreak of Hemorrhagic Fever with Renal Syndrome affecting 16 workers at a fur farm was reported in the Republic of Udmurtia.

Democratic Republic of the Congo: Ebola Haemorrhagic Fever [update 1]

As of 31 December 2008, there have been 3 laboratory-confirmed human cases of Ebola Haemorrhagic Fever in Kasai Occidental Province, Democratic Republic of the Congo. Moreover, there were 36 suspected cases including 12 deaths.

Argentina: Yellow Fever

Argentina reported a fatal case of suspected Yellow Fever. The victim was a 19-year-old young man from Misiones. It was suspected that the youth had been collecting firewood in the Fachinal and Profundidad areas, where dead monkeys have been discovered. The Governor requested that the people living in the respective areas should receive Yellow Fever vaccination. Tourists who come to Misiones must be vaccinated against Yellow Fever.
