As of 31 December 2008, there have been 3 laboratory-confirmed human cases of Ebola Haemorrhagic Fever in Kasai Occidental Province, Democratic Republic of the Congo. Moreover, there were 36 suspected cases including 12 deaths.

Argentina reported a fatal case of suspected Yellow Fever. The victim was a 19-year-old young man from Misiones. It was suspected that the youth had been collecting firewood in the Fachinal and Profundidad areas, where dead monkeys have been discovered. The Governor requested that the people living in the respective areas should receive Yellow Fever vaccination. Tourists who come to Misiones must be vaccinated against Yellow Fever.
