In Singapore, more than 4 600 cases of Dengue Fever were reported in the country so far this year.

As of 1 October this year, 66 976 cases of Dengue Fever with 77 deaths were reported in Thailand.

An official of Riau Islands Province, Indonesia has reported 17 cases of Chikungunya Fever in 2 villages, namely Pangke Village and Sidorejo Village.

In Vietnam, an outbreak of H5N1 Avian Influenza killing 300 ducks raised by a household was reported in Nghe Province. Authorities have culled all the poultry in that area in order to contain the outbreak.

A duck at a farm in eastern Germany had tested positive for H5N1 Avian Influenza. The authorities planned to cull more than 1 000 birds of the farm, mainly turkeys and geese.

The Centre for Health Protection of the Department of Health reported a confirmed imported case of Cholera. A six-year-old Nepalese boy travelled from Nepal to Hong Kong on 3 October and developed symptoms of Cholera on 5 October. He was then admitted to hospital for treatment and was now in stable condition.

In Pakistan, at least 600 suspected cases of Cholera were reported in North-West Frontier Province.

In Pakistan, an outbreak of Dengue Fever was reported in Punjab. Up to now, 11 confirmed cases were reported.

In Afghanistan, an outbreak of Cholera affecting over 1 100 people with at least 17 deaths was reported in the northern, easthern and southeastern regions of the country. The affected provinces included Laghman, Nooristan, Nangarhar, Samangan, Faryab and Nimruz.

As of 5 October 2008, 418 cases of Cholera including 6 deaths were reported in Iraq, mostly in Babil, Baghdad, Qadissiyah and Kerbala.

In Democratic Republic of the Congo, an outbreak of Cholera affecting at least 300 people including 37 deaths was reported in North Kivu.

In Nigeria, an outbreak of Cholera which killed 9 people was reported in Kaduna State. While in Sokoto State, the disease had killed 21 people.

In Senegal, an outbreak of Cholera affecting 481 people was reported in Kaolack.

Central African Republic reported a Yellow Fever case in Boda sub-prefecture in the southwest of the country. The victim was a 32-year-old male.

South African health officials were investigating the deaths of 4 people. The first victim was a Zambian who had been sick for 3 weeks before flying from Zambia to South Africa for seeking medical treatment. She died two days after arriving South Africa. The second victim was a paramedic who flied with the first victim to South Africa.  The third and fourth victims were the staff of the clinic who had contacted the first victim during her stay in the clinic. Crimean-Congo Red Haemorrhagic Fever or other Viral Haemorrhagic Fever is the likely diagnosis but the exact cause is still under investigation.
